Could someone help find Benjamin Bird Born 1812 Snetterton, Norfolk. I have him on 1841 and 1851 Census living with his family in Old Buckenham, Norfolk. His wife in 1851 is Maria B1812 Hinderclay, Suffolk. I do know that Benjamin married again in 1857 to Eliza in Old Buckenham. I cannot trace the family in 1861, & I cannot find any death record for Benjamin between the two census'. What has happened to the family?.....any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

Thank you Reggie. I have the details for Samuel and a copy of the 1851 census. i also have a copy of the marriage to Eliza Stergen, unfortunately, it does not state where she was born but I suspect it was in Old Buckenham. I cannot find a record of his first wife's death either.

Have you tried to find his death? Do you have any idea when it might have occurred? Reg

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 11 Aug 2007 21:03

Yes Reggie...I cannot find anything and No I do not know when it occured. He just seems to have vanished. In 1861 his children would have been Mary Ann 23 William 22 Samuel 19 (whom we know about) Emma 17 Eliza 15 John 11 The last 3 are still young and I would have thought they would be with him somewhere. I wondered if they may have emigrated somewhere.

Just going through my old threads. I still hadn't managed to find Benjamin's death, but I think I have found it now. Whilst looking at the family search site, I discovered a buriel on 4th June 1867 at Wilby, Norfolk for a Benjamin bird (B1813) age 54 Residence Old Buckenham. I discovered that Wilby is approximately 2 miles from Old Buckenham so it has to be it.

This was such an unfortunate family. Benjamin had lost all but two of his children by the time he died in 1867.
John (son) Born 1848 D1850 age 2
John (son) Born 1850 D1852 age 2
Emma (dgt) Born 1844 D1855 age 11
Mary Ann (dgt) Born 1838 D 1855 age 17
Maria (wife) Born 1813 D1855 age 42
William (son) Born 1839 D1858 age 19

his daughter -
Eliza (dgt) Born 1846 D1872 age 26 after her marriage

His only surviving son - Samuel B1842 Died in 1936. Samuel was living in Hockham in 1861 and married Mary Ann Clark in 1864 Attleborough. In 1871 he was back in Old Buckenham on Wilby Road. I wonder if the couple nursed Benjamin until his death in 1867?

Benjamin lost 3 of his family members in one year (1855) I guess I will not know what they died of unless I ordered their death certificates. They must have been a very poorly family to have 6 of them die between 1850 & 1858.

Now. Although I have found Benjamin's buriel at Wilby in 1867, I can't find his death record so that I can order the death certificate.

Can anyone else find it for me please?
Dee
