Hi Maureen, OK, the marriage cert. of Ralph Hartley and Jane Kathleen Pegg like you I thought could be the one, so ages ago I sent off for it. Great, the only problem is according to the marriage cert, Ralph's father is called Thomas Hartley not John, both Ralph and Thomas's profession are given as Hawkers. I thought this was the wrong one but, on reflection the names are so similar. According to the marriage cert. Ralph was born in 1912. At the of the marriage they were living in 22 Albert Street, Swindon, which is about 20 miles from Stroud where Ralph and Jane (if they are they right ones) were living when Jane gave birth to my mother. The other drawback is that on the birth cert. of my mother Jane's name is Hartley formerly Jackson, so I am totally confused. Do you think they are one and the same. I appreciate your help. Hi Reg, on the birth cert. where it states when and where born it says 3 Baird Court, U.S.D.........it gives the Sub-district of St> George, Manchester. Absolutely nothing else. Thanks Mary

Hi Maureen, I have no idea when or even if they were married, I have been trying for absolutely ages to find them but, I do appreciate your helping me. I do have a record of when Ralph died, in WW1, he died in action in Belgium and on the details I have it says ' Son of John and Mary Hartley; husband of Jane Kathleen Hartley. I can't find a marriage for either of them, not sure where to go to next. Thanks Mary

No results for 'Baird Court' in 1891 or 1901...........was there no other address? Reg

John and Mary may well be on the census, but without knowing their birth details, finding them would be virtually impossible. Your one slim hope is that they were still at the address given on Ralph's birth cert.........you can do address searches for 1901 on the official website, but viewing the images costs around 75p. Reg

Hi Mary, I did try address search on 1891 but did not come up with the address on the birth cert. Do you have any idea of when or where the couple married? Maureen

Hi Reg, All I have to go on is their sons birth cert. .......RALPH HARTLEY born 17 May 1893 (my grandfather) Fathers name: John Hartley and mothers name: Mary Hartley formerly Buckley, iving 3 Baird Court, Manchester. Does this help? Regards mary
