I haven't but am looking for someone with the 1861 census too. I think Chris Elstob has the 1851 census and if you ask her really nicely might oblige |

The area's covered by about a dozen or so different FHSes. A fair amount of indexing's been done, esp for 1851, but piecemeal, e.g. Doncaster FHS's area comes indexed for 1851 in about 50 booklets. Somebody might have just the bit you need. Best to post specific details |

Thanks for the info. I am trying to follow up something that Chris Elstob looked up for me on the 1871 census. My gggrandfather Joe Schofield (b 3/2/1850 at Emley Park) was living at Emley Park WRY with his grandmother Sarah Schofield (b 1793 at Shepley). He was a farmer (as on 1881 and 1891 census') but as there was no father on his birth certificate, I am trying to find who his grandfather was. I am assuming that his grandfather was farming the same land before him. Joe's mother was called Betty Schofield and I know little else about her. It is getting tantilising as the IGI is very good for Emley and I am so close to being able to make significant progress with this line! Thanks Russell |

Thankyou all I have decided I am going to buy the 1861 Yorkshire Census for Christmas, so I can do look ups for you all,,,,BUT Where is the best place to buy it from? What are the differences in the disks provided by the different suppliers? Which versions are the easiest to search? Do you need to buy separate name indexes? etc,,,,etc!! It is all a bit confusing :-{ |

hi russell, i bought my 1881 discs[but they cover england/scotland/wales/channel islands/i of man/and royal navy and set consists of 25 discs,]from the lds and paid about £30, and it has been excellent value, much easier than all the trailing to the library cos you couldnt search online when i bought it , will have a look around sue |
