Hi Thank you so much for your kind offer. I'm not sure how near Halifax your records reach and how far back they go but I am looking For the families of Henry(cloth weaver) and Hannah Beck born around 1800. Their son John was born in Triangle, baptised at Sowerby nr Halifax on 20/5/1823. As far as I can find out he had 2 brothers, Isaac and Thomas. I am also looking for James Horner (linen weaver), b 1801 in Halifax and wife Elizabeth. They had Deliah (Delilah) b1823 and Eliza b 1818. Do you have any parish records for this area? Anything would be a great help. Hope this isn't too vague. I have so little information on the early life of this family. Kind regards, Jackie xx

I've turned out to be a bit busy with this one, I wasn't intending to cover Haworth as I think it now comes under Bradford as part of Keithley. First steps anyway: 1901 census search for Southam surname with place keyword Haworth, and you end up with 27 names. It is worth grouping these into families by clicking on a Name & then Household (1.25 so far). If you have a match in Household to the second name, go onto the third and so on. Refer back to your original list until you have all 27 Southams. You will probably now have between four and six families, so it's cost under a tenner so far. Then look at the 1881 census site 3w familysearch org Find all the Southams you can (that site is free). Compare your two lists. Try to work out a) who has been born b) who has died c) who has got married Then you try and find marriages in that period (most easily done by referring to freebmd rootsweb com. You can then either send off for the GRO certificate (7quid a pop) or search church records for the marriages (price of the bus fare to the library). This will give you maiden names and names of the bride's father. Search again in freebmd for Bride's birth and her parents marriage. Repeat until you head spins. Pauline

Hi Paulline, Does your area also cover Haworth? If so - Only just started to search for my relatives - I know my grandfather died at Ypres and his name is on the Menin Gate. Found him on the War Graves site. Joseph Merry. His mum was Jane Merry. Where do you suggest I go from here? Family tree a bit disjointed as he never married my grandmother (her name was Amy Southam - I think there was a few of them in Haworth - know she had three other sisters - Alice, Kitty, and ?. Thanks Lynne Wheeler.

Hi, I seem to have come to a stop with not mucn details. I have found Hiram Pickles m Martha Schofield 1867. Hiram died 1868. They had a sone Thomas Philip Schofield who emigrated to New Zealand. Dont know why he took his mothers maiden name as i found Martha Pickles in 1881 and 1891. I dont think she remarried. I have John Schofield and Hannah Marsland as parents and Thomas Pickles and Sally or salley. I have no dates for parents. I did find a picture of Thomas Pickles headstone on Myrtle Grove Independant Eatwood website but not sure if its the same one. If you could provide me with some more information it would be great. Not sure what access you have to records. All are listed as Halifax Todmorden and Heptonstall areas. Thanks Gloria

Bev, I had a quick look on freebmd for their births. I cannot find an Edgar Sutcliffe born in Huddersfield. If you search on the 1901 census site there are possibilities for him dotted around Yorks/ Lancs. One is in Soyland (Halifax) which I can check for in Church records. There is an Elizabeth Leather age 4months in the Bolton area. When you say that they are from Huddersfield did you mean that they were born there, or lived there in later life? Pauline
