Can anyone tell me please if it is worth subscribing to the Ancestry site or can all their information be got from other sources on the net. Thanks Gill |

I've found it useful, and I could afford it, so took out a years subscription too... I guess if cash is a bit tighter, there are lots on here (me included) willing to do lookups. It isn't the font of all knowledge, but does contain a reasonable amout, and having two complete censuses (soon hopefully !) is worth the cost alone in my opinion, when I comare to what I've already spent on the 1901 census, I'd say it compares favourably. It is an expensive hobby though isn't it, website subscriptions, charges for copies of certificates, and (soon) trips to the NA/FRC etc. |

Thank you Paul and Susie, I wasn't quite sure as £60 plus seems quite a lot. I've just renewed my 1837 credits for another £25 and don't want to fork out for something that can be gleaned from LDS, FreeBMD etc. Also, there is one branch of my tree proving very elusive and I don't have the confidence anymore that, yet another site promising x y z, is going to come up with the goods. By the way what census's does it actually cover? Regards Gill |

1891 census, with the 1871 census due soon (Middlesex already available). 1891 bridges the gap nicely between whats available elsewhere (1881 on LDS and 1901 on the government (pay) site) |

Rosemary, I'm always willing to do lookups, so anything you need looking up, just ask... until your birthday that is ;-) Paul |

Do you know if the 1871 will cover ALL of Kent. Most of my rellies are in Gravesend/Northfleet with a few hailing from Middlesex and thus far I have not discovered this area of Kent on CD or elsewhere? Also does 1891 cover the same area as above. Also (again) is by name search or would I need an address? Sorry so many question - but I really need to know it is worthwhile. Regards Gill |
