Just to update everybody who helped on this. I think I found a birth for Margaret's father guess the spelling?? Spolswood. I now have Spot(t)swood, Spelswood as well. Is it any wonder we can't find things on the 1881 census?? Thanks again everybody.

Thanks for having a look. It doesn't make sense does it. I don't think it can be my William unless he was only 11 and lied about his age. I think I have found his birth at St George in the East Jan 1869. I will have to get the marriage certificate to try and get more info. There are so many you can't find on the 1881. hi. there are6 margaret spotswoods [spelt in various ways] on the 1881 disc . but none born london, or in 1870,sue.

I can't find : Margaret Spotswood on the 1881. I have found a birth 1870 Stepney, marriage 1893 Stepney, which is I hope to William Costigan. I also can't find William on the 1881. He is on 1901 as age 31 b. London Ratcliff, census place Limehouse, together with Margaret age 30 b. London Limehouse, with three children. Max has found me a William Costigan on the 1891 aged 21 as a confectioner. Help, any ideas???
