Hello Sydney, just off the phone to both the LDS centres in Le Havre and Rouen. Le Havre, no response but Rouen, a nice little chat produced the following "no records here but at the Mairie'. The Mairie is in fact the Town Hall. I do not know the exact address, but if you write to " Hotel de Ville, Etat Civil, Seine-Maritime, 76000 Rouen, France". If you can get a letter written in French, all the better, anyway no harm done. Good hunting, Derek in France e

In January 1939 my Grandfather,Thomas Nicoll who was a fireman on board the ship "SS President" went to post a letter home to his family. The ship was docked in Le Havre on the 21 Jan. My grandfather failed to return to his ship and his body was eventually found in the river Seine. I believe he was buried in Roune on the 15 Feb.1939. I would like to get a copy of a death certificate and any relevant information as regards the incident. I have tried to get in touch with the police in Rouen but have never recieved a reply. Can anyone please help? Incidentally his letter was recieved by his family so he obviously made it to the letter box. He served as a Sergeant in the Royal Scots Fusiliers in France during the 1914/18 war and was badly shell shocked which makes me wonder if his visit to that area brought back very bad memories and was too much for him hence my reason for trying to find what information I can. Thank You in anticipation, Sid Forte
