I have hit that dead end stage looking for my paternal ancestors. Can anyone advise me on what I can do next as I don't have his parents' names or actual date of birth? (1881 census results on him were accurate regarding year of birth). Have had some advice, but can't follow it up due to lack of info on him. Cheers for any help. Dave. Bristol. |

If you go to the International Genealogical Index (IGI) Section of the Family Search Site - URL can be find in the Links section under Resource Centre from the menu on the left - and type in George Brain, Birth, 1843, British Isles, England, you will get three results. One was born in Warwickshire, the other two in Gloucester, Bitton, and Kingswood by Bristol respectively. If you open the latter it shows parents as John Brian and Martha Williams. If you feel that this is the right one, click on the Batch Number towards the bottom of the page, and in the new Search Box type Brain, father John, mother Martha, then click on search, and his siblings will be listed. Good luck with your research, Jan. |

Sorry, I don't think that one can be the right one, because one of the 1843 George's siblings was another George born in 1847, which implies that the first George died very young. I wonder if the other Gloucestershire George is right? No luck on FreeBMD either. Jan. |

Jan, Diane, Jill & Ken. Thank you so much for taking the time to look into my dead end & for taking the time to reply. I'm not 100% sure as to his place of birth, but I know his son, and grandson were both married & christened (and in his sons case, buried) at Holy Trinity Church, St. George Bristol. So maybe it is the George Brain that Ken has discovered with the christening at the same church. Thank you all once again for your time and efforts, I very much appreciate it. Dave. Bristol. |
