My Gt Gt Grandfather James Blears was born in Weaste in Salford in 1860. According to his marriage certificate in 1884, his father was George Blears ( deceased ). Despite sending for 3 different Birth Certificates ( all of which were the wrong ones ) I Have been unable to find who his mother is. I have also been unable to find any info on George. Is there anyone out there who can help me please???? Many thanks Gail. |

HI Gail There is a James Blears aged 16yrs on the 1881 census and his father is called George. If this is him he would have had a lot of brothers and sisters. Unfortunately this James was born in Eccles, Lancashire. If you want more details let me know. Jane |

Hi Gail, have just checked 1837 online for James Blears for period 1859-1861 there is no record,so either name has been wrongly transcribed or he was never registered,it wasn't compulsory until the 1870's.There were Blears registered in Manchester and Barton but no James. John |

Hi John, Thanks again for that, I've done all sorts to get this certificate. Looks like I'll just have to accept that I'm not going to, is there any other way of finding out when he was born?? Regards Gail. |

Hi I have just found out from 1871 census that my husband's gg grandfather William Haslam was born Salford Manchester 1814. He married Eliza from Merton Surrey. Is there a list of Salford Strays? Shirley |

Hi Gail, probably not be able to find birth, but you might be able to find date of baptism if you knew the church nearest to where he was born ,their records are probably kept at Salford library or records office, there is someone(her name is Carole)on this site who goes to the records office who might be able to help. |

Hi Gail Have you found James on the census at all? It's just Weaste is literally a stones throw from Eccles. Have you tried to contact Salford family history ? I have a few of my familys ages wrong on the censuses but I know they are the correct people. Salford Local History Library Salford Museum and Art Gallery Peel Park The Crescent SALFORD M5 4WU Tel: 0161-736 2649 Fax: 0161-745 9490 E-mail: [email protected] Annoyingly they close Monday (my day off!) and late night is karate night (Weds) so even I struggle to get there and I dont live too far! I have some bits I need to look up but will have to wait for my hols next month! If you still need help I will keep hold of your message until I go again!! good luck and dont give up Jan x |

Sorry for butting in on this conversation, but I could look at the one and only Blears in Salford 1861, not Weaste or Eccles, if the date of birth is correct he should be in this census, well, maybe, its worth a try. This would eliminate Salford. I have a great deal of searching to do for other members, (because one of them is Hall, and there are 47 entries) I can have a look at Weaste and Eccles and go back again check them out. I will gadly help when I have more time, Oh! and by the way, please do not buy any more certificates, I can check before purchase, when you send for it, it will at least be the right one. Denise M/C |
