I am trying to find a Bella Hill b 1877 Kentish Town In the 1881 census her mother Georgiana Hill is living in St Pancras with rest of family but no Bella. I have found Bella in the 1901 with Georgiana in Battersea. Were did Bella sneak off to? Linda |

Hi linda I have found Georgiana on the 1891 census for you and Bella is not with her then either. She is listed as the daughter of Maria Chanter a widow aged 64 living at 21 Battersea Rise, Battersea and has a John Hill age 54 a pianoforte tuner born in Worcester listed as Maria's son i law, and a Rosa Hill age 20 a Contralto Pianist born Kentish Town and listed as Maria's grand daughter and also a visitor called Cuthbert M Hammerton age 25 an insurance clerk born Maidstone, Kent. He maybe a future husband of Rosa. There are no Bella Hill's born in London at all, a few isabella'a but none that match. It is as if your Bella Hill appeared from nowhere to be on the 1901 census. I have also looked on 1881 census and cannot find her either. I have saved the image of the 1891 census if you would like it. Sharon |

Hi I have been trawling through 1881 looking for someone so I thought I'd keep an eye out for your missing Bella, I think she's been missed off or in hospital with her name transcribed wrong. If she was visiting a friend then her name might have wrongly been attached to the family where she was. Intriguingly I found a stray Bella from London of about the right age - with a family called Lloyd, in Durham. Do you have any Durham connections? I tried scrawling Hill in old fashioned writing to see whether it could look like Navill ! I guess her family name was most likely to be Neville, but you never know! Good luck. Hope you find her.
