Anybody got access to American version please? Looking for birth of Mary Jane Morris c1873/4. Only knowledge I have is she was born in Clay County,America (no state given). Father Thomas Morris, Mother possibly Ann? formerly Harris. Both Welsh. Thank you, John

Thank you for that April but I have that info. I am after the actual date and place in America. All census just show Clay County, America. I am trying to find exactly where. Cheers, John

John, go to Ask Jeeves and type in Clay County, and you'll find out it's in Northeast Florida, there is loads of info on there, hope this leads you where you want. April:-)

This is the problem April, virtually every state has a Clay County. There are 3 states with Mary Janes on American Ancestry that could fit the bill, but I am not too keen on paying just for that info. I was on UK Ancestry but that won't allow you to look at the American site. Cheers, John

John: Sorry, can't help with a lookup, but do you have ANY information about Clay County? There are quite a few in the states, but if any family members happened to mention anything about the county, I could try and pinpoint which one it is. There are various characteristics in the states: mountains/prairies, snowy/hot, tornadoes/earthquakes, etc. Or, do you know what their occupations were, while in Wales?

Lisa, Thomas is present on the Glamorgan 1861 census and both he and his family are there on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census too. He has other children born after Mary Jane - all of them in Glamorgan so he obviously only remained in America for a short time. Mary Jane's birth is consistently given on all the census' as Clay County America and the possible 1873/4 birth years are consistent with all the census given ages. All I can tell you is that Thomas was a coal miner - so I thought the obvious choice would be Pennsylvania. My geographical knowledge of the USA is (shamefully) not very good so now I'm stuck. Any guidance from you would be great. I've also tried immigration lists without success Thanks John
