Can anyone help me please. Some of my relations moved to New Zealand in the 1800's and I was wondering how I can look them up. Does anyone know please. Kind regards Josette

Hi I am also looking to find information on family who left England in 1853 to go to New Zealand , they left Plymouth on the Blundell but have not managed to get much information. If I find any sites that may help you I will contact you. My family are Langford's from Ringstead Norfolk. Debbie

Hi, I also have the same problem although if you find them on familysearch you can order an eletronic print out of death which also lists surviving children by age and sex. costs 20 New Zealand dollars. available using a visa and the form printed of the NZ gov. website. I just got 2 back for my ancestors and it seems that one did not go straight to NZ but went to america first. I have been trying to get passenger lists but none for the period that i require. If you do find a good website please share it as I still have a lot to research from NZ. Tried finding an equivalent to our Free BMD but failed so far Gloria

The NZ Society of Genealogists www(.)genealogy(.)org(.)nz has a wealth of information on people pre 1900. Unfortunately you have to be a member to access it. By looking at the website though you can see members interests and maybe see the name you are looking for. Once you're a member they give you a contact address for the person or persons who have the same name interest as you. In my particular case I found so much information on my husband's family it was incredible - I was able to get an original photo of my husband's grandfather (whom he had never seen at all before) and found an Aunty that he had no knowledge of. So you don't only find your ancestors you can find living connections. Christine

Thanks for that Christine, I have found my mum has 6 half siblings that she knew nothing a bout. Bearing in mind my mum is 76 and was brought up believing her mother had died I am afraid to tell her to much as she found it hard to believe her relatives had lied to her all these years. Shame I cant share my knowledge with her but she gets upset when I mention that her parents got divorced. Gloria

I live at the bottom of a coal mining almost ghost town Denniston famous for it's 'incline' lots of people from Wales, cornwall Ireland and Scotland came here from about the 1870's onward. If anyone has connections with this area let me know and I'll see what I can find out! Only to pleased to be able at last to help, since so many of you have helped me! as all my ancestors are from 'back home' I'm a recent 'import' of 20yrs!! Dawn in NZ
