Hi there I am looking for some help My great grandmother Rachel Annie Kelly was born 19th Oct 1900 Barton Upon Irwell. Her father is listed as Joseph Kelly mother Rachel Kelly formerly Proctor. All seems fine ,but I cannot find a marriage of Rachel to Joseph and Proctor was actually her previous married name (all her otherr children have Proctor as surname and her prev husband was Richard cant find a marriage for these either!) I have been through 1901 have Rachel and children are listed but NO Joseph. Rachel is down as married on the census so I presume he must be there but i cant find him I need to know where he was born and an age to at least start looking. If it helps Joseph was a cab driver in 1900 on Rachels birth cert. many thanks Jan x

Maybe it is as simple as Joseph was out driving the cab all night the night of the census and they didn't put him in. And maybe she told porkies and wasn't actually married to him. All of which is no help to you is it - sorry! Ann Glos

From 1901 census: I've found one Rachael KELLY, aged 7 months, was born Patricroft, Lancs, and living in Eccles, Lancs. There are 15 KELLY women living in Eccles in 1901, so not easy to make a family without the census decoder. Was your great grandmother a twin by any chance??? There's also a Winifred KELLY, also aged 7 months, born in Patricroft etc. There is another Rachael KELLY, aged 38, born in St Helens, Lancs, living in Eccles, and working as a Charwoman. As for men.... No Joseph, but there is a Matt Kelly, aged 2 born in Patricroft. My only idea is that maybe Joseph went by a middle name? You've probably found this already. Chloe

Ann Have my family upset you HE HE! only joking :) Michelle Thank you for finding this I couldnt find it but looked on Ancestry I will get this ordered, first born was about 1888. Hi Chloe yes I have the typed print for this family which is how I knew they were Proctors I am going to pay to read the actual census return as it has no head of the house it refers to Rachel as (relation to housholder) wife. Which is a puzzle! I thought at first Rachel and Winifred were twin sisters but they have different mothers Winifred was born to Winifred and Rachael was born to Rachael. Ill have another look through 1901 A lot of the Kellys in Patricroft were from Ireland maybe that where he was? Jan x
