Don't give up !!!! I'm having a similar problem with a relative I know existed and is on census records, I even met the bloke and I know he was married - just trying to find out who to and it's not easy. I've exhausted all the places I can and I've asked for help on here so fingers crossed. It makes you feel like giving up now and then but I usually put a real poser to one side if I feel beat and concentrate on a others.I can come back to the puzzle maybe a bit less perplexed. Hang on in there ! Mary Brooke

Hi Deborah Don't give up. I've been doing this for years and felt like you do. But today someone new put their stuff on GC and she is engaged to my dad's cousin's son. A whole new angle of things might develop. It keeps me on my toes. You never know who might find this site tomorrow .. or next week. Love A

Mary, Give us the names you are looking for. Perhaps we can help. I was really stuck and put out messages everywhere. Eventuallly, I found a fourth cousin through someone spotting her name on a Coronation Street Fan Club Website in Canada. Georgina

Hi Don't give up just give it a rest for a while, then try again, we all have brick walls from time to time, but its made all the sweeter when you do find what you are looking for. I might add at this point that we had been trying to prove our family were from Bath 1790. As our ggg died before any census, it has been hard going. For 3 years we have looked not all the time, and then by chance we had this break through all because of a death certificate. Our ggg grandfather Robert if the one we found in Bath is ours had a family of brothers and sisters, well we found the wife of Roberts son Giles with his Aunt, Jane's Aunt by marriage who would be Roberts sister we had her marriage as well. No reason for this wife to be in Bath at that time, husband in Dorset with son and one daughter in Wiltshire with her grandmother we have these on the 1861 census. So put it away for a bit, try another line and good luck, it is there somewhere. Irene

I've given up on my Mumford side. It's no use, tired of beating my head against that stupid brick wall. A couple of days ago I started sorting my family tree paperwork and found three things I had forgotten about. I am now off searching for a different ancestor and quite thrilled to try something new. I know I will keep looking for my Mumfords, whom I've grown quite fond of, but changing my search priorities is keeping me sane. Don't forget your brick wall -- perhaps just take a break for a couple of days or weeks and try again?

I know just how you feel. On my late mothers side I can't find any info on three branches. I know they existed or I wouldn't be here. I have posted many look up requests but nothing found, I have also spent a fortune on certificates that turn out not to be the ones I want. I did what others suggested and tried another branch and have found a person who has researched a name and gone back to the 1600's. I will keep going back to try and find the others maybe I'll strike lucky one day. Janice

Deborah I'm with the others, don't give up, they are out there somewhere. My Great Grandfather is another one of the elusive people, couln't make up his mind what his name was or who is father was, doesn't make things easy. nearly all my ancestors just don't want to be found. Maybe if the 1911 census would come out early, we could get the answers we need. Leigh

Deborah I'm in Liverpool on Thursday - is there a certificate I can pick up for you whilst I'm there? I'm taking part in an exhibition at the Town Hall, and would be able to find time to go to the Register Office for you, but unfortunately won't have time to go to the Library to do any look-ups. Let me know if I can help. Jane
