hi Kathleen, I checked FreeBMD and found the following: Deaths Sep 1890 Atkins Napoleon John 3 Islington 1b 230 This would make him born in 1887 and could have possibly been your nan's older brother as she was born in 1889 is Islington the right area?? Probably best thing you could do is order a copy of your nan's birth certificate which would give mother's maiden name as well as father's details and then work backwards from there. You didn't give your nan's name to search on FreeBMD?? This would then give you the info to order the birth certificate. If you need any further help then let me know, I know what it is like if you are just starting out, you read these emails and have no idea what BMD is or 1837online mean?!?! but these are probably the most fundamental website to use if researching family history. Please can some one help me ,my g/gandfather was Napoleon john Atkins, all i know of him is he was a woodchopper were from we don,t know,he & his wife had at least 1 daughter my nan. She was 26 when she married John henry Harris in 9/5/1915 in Islington London. we know john,s father was also John, If you can help we would be gratefull there were storys that grand family came from Irland we dont know.
