Hi Angela, Sorry but not the outcome you wanted! Have checked both Census forms for you and both 1871 & 1891 for Stapleton family is IRELAND. I can understand why you thought one was Scotland because the record reference of the 1871 does state?,?,Scotland but if you open the record itself it gives birthplace as Ireland in the right hand column. Full Details from 1871 Census Channel Islands Document ref. RG 10/5766 Pages 3 & 4 Thomas Stapleton 33 yrs Quarryman Born Ireland Bridget Stapleton 30 yrs Domestic Servant Born Ireland Son William 10 yrs Stone cracker Born Guernsey Son,Thomas 9 yrs, Daughters Catherine 7 yrs, Mary 6 yrs, Ann 4 yrs Sons John 2 yrs, Michael 11 months (Notice Williams occupation aged 10 stonecracker!!!) Guess there wasn't to much to do on the island at night...lol Hope this clears it up for you, if you need any further help please contact me. Geoff

If anyone has access to information concerning GUERNSEY pre 1871 could they give me 5 minutes to check the following information: in 1881 census THOMAS & BRIDGET STAPLETON are living in Guernsey, born in IRELAND in the 1871 census they are THOMAS & BRIGHTER STAPLETON who were born in SCOTLAND. ( The names and ages of their children tally so I am presuming they're the same people) I'd like to know if they're Irish or Scottish. I'm hoping for the latter because it'll be easier.
