Hi guys n gals, I got a bit of a shock when I finally found the site for scottish records. I took it for granted that because we can look at the 81 census for free that it would also apply to the scottish version. Was I in for a shock. Ok, its £6 for 30 credits but if your not familiar with the geography then its going to be an expensive search. Surely if you can search this side of the border for free then surely they could see there way to follow??? whats your thought on this then Debbie |

Hi Deborah, I don't object to the pay per view. BUT when I was using this site regularly, some months ago, you could at least search for free, to see if anything was likely to be useful. I was horrified when I went to use it recently, on a whim, that I couldn't even even search till I'd paid my £6!!! (needless to say, I didn't bother) All other pay per view sites I can think of, let you search first, before you pay any money. Debbie |

Hi all, I know we are talking about the census returns but for BMDs its excellent as you can view the actual certificate before downloading. I've wasted money ordering a certificate from 1837 to find its the wrong one, plus you get more information on a marriage/death certificate than you do on the English certificates. Shame we did'nt start till 1855. Jean |

Hi Debbie P, This site is far better that any I have found and well worth the money. I do agree that we should all be able to view the 1881 for all of the UK. There are many of us who have the 1881 for Scotland and will be very happy to do look ups for you. Just post a message with the details and one of us will look it up for you. Hi Debbie S, I have been using scotlandspeople for almost a year and have only been able to search when I have had credits. Other than the free surname search which is still available. Hi Gloria, What reputation are you refering to? As Jean says you can waste a lot of money ordering the wrong certificates on 1837. On scotlandspeople you can view them instantly and would only waste £1 if it was wrong. I could never have been able to afford to buy my 100 plus certificates if I was researching the rest of the UK. Regards Margaret |
