As you have the date of birth and the name it should I would think be as straight forward as applying to Dublin records office for the birth certificate - that will give you both parents inc mothers maiden name. Big question is what is the address of Dublin Records office?/ Try here http://www.groireland.ie/apply_for_a_cert.htm Teresa

Rebecca, I think you will find the address on Theresa (from Cork)'s thread on Tips Board. Best of luck, I am still trying to find my relative in Limerick in 1849, an uphill task!! Margaret

The official records for Ireland did not start until 1863 so your Limerick one through Dublin is going to be very tricky!
If you know the barony and parish, whether you are looking at Catholic or Protestant records you will have to search through Dublin GRO to find your ancestor. t is not enought to know the town, city or village. The good news is that Limerick is no longer a "closed" county so you will be able to access the records but I hope for your sake they do not go over the border to Tipperary because this is a "closed" county to the public .

Hi Janet. I am afraid I no nothing!! except that she was born c 1849 in Limerick and married my great grandfather, don't know where either!! Only reliable info of her is the 1881 census in Hougham Kent and 1891 in Sheffield. But thanks all the same for mentioning the 1864 record. I had learned that over the 5 years I have been searching and also I do not know which religion but would suspect from family rumour that she was catholic and he was possible Cof E or Free Church. I have been researching Irish records for many years and I do know how tricky they can be. Very few records exist before 1790 and those that do are mainly protestant. One other thing you could try is to access your local mormon centre to see if they could pull in Limerick records although they will still want you to state the parish of interest. However your local centre may have an index that you can go through and just pull in he records one by one until you have accessed all Limerick. This could take a long time as you do not know whether you are talking about Limerick City or Limerick County. The IGI in Ireland is very limited as the catholic church do not always allow the mormons access to the records. Parts of Limerick also come under the Cashel Bishop which means Tipperary and you can only access Tip records through the Heritage Centres though there are other ways to access. Some Limerick records are on line but patchy. Try the Irish Origins site and get into Limerick to see what they have. I found some that I was looking for in Limerick until they strayed into Tip! Janet
