got this from freeBMD Surname First name(s) District Vol Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages Dec 1884 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BURGE Samuel Camberwell 1d 1196 HILLS Clara Camberwell 1d 1196 Huggins Jacob Camberwell 1d 1196 SAUNDERS Sarah Jane Camberwell 1d 1196 could be either of the 2 women listed but Samuel and Clara burge show up together on 1891 census Anna

Thanks to all for your help. Samuel Burge was born in Peckham, so the Camberwell marriage looks correct. I thought that index images on 1837online showed the surname of the person that an individual married. Or is that only after 1900 or something? I hadn't looked on FreeBDM for ages, it must have had a large update recently. Time I checked on other stuff. Good to know that FreeBMD and 1837online seem to agree on the Camberwell Reference number. Chris.
