Hi Simon, I also looked at the same page, in those times the name of the spouse was not included, so your only bet is to order the certificate. When I'm on 1837 again I'll look for another couple of years each side for you. Sue |

Hi, cheers in advance if anyone can help ! I'm trying to pin down the maiden name of the Caroline that married my gr-gr-gr-grandfather, William Nobbs. (The Caroline comes from the 1891 census - I'm just hoping at this stage that it was his first and only marriage). William was born in Foulsham, Norfolk in 1836 and Caroline in 1832 in Briston, Norfolk. Their first child, also William, was born in 1861 and so I'm initially assuming their marriage to have been shortly before that. A FreeBMD search show a William Nobes (note the spelling difference - a common mis-transcription - I should know, I also have Nobes' in my family !), getting married in June 1860 in the Walsingham District, Volume 4b. Trouble is the page number is listed as 5[03]5 - trying a search with either the 0 or 3 (and in fact all other numbers !) doesn't bring up the appropriate marriage. If anyone's got any spare credits on the 1837 online site (I can't register with them as I have no credit card) could you either a) see if you can find the other parties in the above marriage or b) see if you can find a William Nobbs getting married sometime around 1860ish in Norfolk (possibly to a Caroline as descibed above - ie if that was his first and only marriage) ? Many thanks in anticipation - you generous people really are invaluable !! Simon |
