Hi, I have an address on my Grandmother's marriage cert as New Leeds, W Yorks. I am pretty sure this address no longer exists, but I would love to hear from anyone who knows what the area is now called. Vivien

Vivien, Is there a street address, or if married in church/registry, that name of the church/registry? Pauline

Vivien, Not that it helps you any, but someone on rootsweb was also looking for New Leeds in West Yorkshire - he thinks it was Bradford - does that make sense to you? Emma.

Vivien, Found this on "This is Bradford" website: Sadly for the residents, Aeolus Street in Bradford was not in a place where the winds were fresh or particularly gentle. In fact it stood between the gas works and a foundry in Bowling Back Lane. It was probably one of the most inaptly-named thoroughfares in the city; but it wasn’t the oddest name. Upper Cabbage Street could possibly claim that title. It was not far from Aeolus Street and formed part of what was called, until it was pulled down in the 1950s, New Leeds. This was a bit of a liberty, because even the original Leeds didn’t have an Upper Cabbage Street. Emma.
