finding a death record

Hi can anyone help me locate a record of death for my Grandfather please ? His name was William Richard SWAIN (born 1903) and I think he died in the early to mid 80's. As far as I know he lived in Milton Keynes or the surrounding area (possibly Potterspury). He'd been estranged from my mother most of her life, and I wasn't very old/interested when he died, but would be nice to get the death certificate for completion. Thanks Paul

I've checked the death registers for 1984 - 2001 and he isn't on there....so he must have died before 1984. Sorry, it's not that much help

Paul email me. I have found a handy local source for English BMD and I can weave you into my list of look-ups if you still need it. Zoe

Hi Paul, I've checked 1837 online and unfortunately can find no trace of a death for William Richard Swain from the start of 1979 to the end of 1983.Sorry I could not find him! Sinead

Paul, I checked through the death index records for 1978 - 1989 and came up with one possible for the area: 1984 Willie Swaine Keighley 0684 4 709 (dob 12 Jan 1903) All the William either had the wrong middle name of the area was way out (mostly up north if I remember) To double check I did the births for that date and came up with: 1903 (mar) William Richard Swain Potterspury (?) 3b 22 theres also a William George Swain Hope this helps Zoe

Zoe, Thanks very much for that, I'll follow it up. I think I'd going to have to ask my Mum again as to where her father was when he died (and when, if she can remember) by the sounds of it; as I mentioned before, they were astranged and she doesn't really like to talk about him - she's never refused information but I feel like I'm intruding. The birth that you found for 1903 in Potterspury is the correct one. Am not sure where Keighley is though - up north somewhere ? Thanks again Paul

Paul, Keighley is indeed up North. Covered by Bradford Family History Society if I am not mistaken. Has the railway where "Railway Children" was filmed. Pauline
