Yes Janet -I found this one but as first child not born until 1866 in Paddington. Think this was either someone else or a first marriage (the wife I have on 1881 is Maria H). Have found a marriage for a J Copus on 1838online for 1865 but it is for Shoreditch. There is also one for 1862 in Westminster. Wish they listed the wife's name!!!!! Which cert should I send for?!!!! Thanks anyway Pauline. He was around somewhere as he was on 1881 census. Maria, his wife came from Notts so he certainly got around. They had a child born Paddington in 1870. Jackie |

Had a look on the genealogist 1871 london census. I am trying to trace the whereabouts of a John Copus born Eton Bucks 1834 in 1861 and 1871. In 1865 he married a Maria H in Shoreditch but in 1881 they are found living at Battersea, occupation gatekeeper. He may have had a previous wife to Maria as he was in his 30s when they married.
