Could someone do a look up for me please at the parish church - I'm looking for the christening of Rose Ellen Jane Weeks, according to the LDS IGI she was christened on 14th July 1878, Chislehurst, Kent. Her father's name is shown as Josiah Weeks and the mother's name is Kate. Would be grateful if you could find any further info. My great-grandmother has been a brick wall for years for everyone else in the family and I think this person may be her! Many thanks(:

Dear Vera, Many thanks for your reply. This lady has led me a dance for months now! I've spent most of my day off trying to find her actual date of birth but she is eluding me on 1837online. But perhaps one day I'll get to Chislehurst itself! Most grateful for your help. Lynnexx

Linda, Have found on Ancestry. Josiah Weekes (not weeks) and Catherine Rearden married December 1868 London Middlesex. 1c 784. Although it does not say he married her, they are on the same page (kate) a coincidence. What do you think? V

Linda, The parish records for Chislehurst are in Bromley Central Library. I may be able to get there some time next week and I can look up this christening for you if you want me to. Janice

Linda, I had the same problem with my grandmother. We knew her as Vera Ann after going around and around , I found she was born with the name Annie Maud. These ancestors certainly don't help!!! Regards V

Vera & Janice, You both crept in while I was eating a late meal! (cooked by my son!) Thanks for all your efforts - it's much appreciated. Yes please, Janice - if you can have a look next time you go to Bromley - that would be great. I have been looking through the 'Weekes' but this Catherine escaped me - I'll look into it. Great stuff! I found the Josiah Weeks & Kate and a young Kate in the Bromley Union Workhouse, so perhaps they fell on hard times and ended up as paupers. (So what's new!) Best wishes Lynne

Vera & Jan, In the last message, I meant a young 'Rose' in the workhouse at Farnborough. Lynne

Hello again Lynne, Josiah and Kate were married in Bethnal Green ( you probably know all this.) I have found a Rose on the 1837 online in oct.nov.dec. 1877, but born in Greenwich. 1d 939. Any good. Hope you enjoyed your meal, (what a lovely son) and didn't get indigestion from all the messages!! Bye for now V

Dear Vera, I didn't know it was Bethnal Green - thanks - the times I've been through there when I lived in London!! I had found that Rose and I've noted it down for looking further. Best wishes, Lynne

Hi Linda, Looked up the christening for you: July 14th 1878 Chislehurst Parish Church (which I think is St Nicholas) Rose Ellen Jane Weeks, daughter of Josiah Weeks, a platelayer, and Kate. Address Hyde Street, New Cross. I'm not sure why the daughter was being christened in Chislehurst if they lived in New Cross (SE London); something for you to ponder on!!! ;-) The workhouse records are also in Bromley Library but it was too late in the afternoon to order them today. Dear Janice, Many thanks for your message - I've only just switched on for the first time today. I took a wedding this afternoon for a couple - the sun shone - and it was her 21st birthday!! I'm really aware now of how important it is to write neatly in the Registers!. Evidently, New Cross is the 'new' name for Hatcham, Middlesex - I think it's roughly where Kent & Middlesex meet:so, this must be the same Rose Ellen Jane. This is terrific! If you can get to Bromley that would be great: I know Rose was in the Bromley Union Workhouse - I wonder if they just record the names or whether they record why they had to enter the Workhouse. Have a good weekend, Best wishes, Lynne

Just looked in my A-Z and the only Hyde Street currently listed is in the New Cross in SE London, and this one is much nearer to Chislehurst. Janice
