Both the 1881 and the 1891 censuses give the only George Atkin who was a Blacksmith as being born in Leake, Lincolnshire. The 1881 census gives his age as 40 ( birth year therefore possibly 1840, NOT 1841 as the LDS prints, which is based on an American system of age in year of census, rather than the British system of age at DATE of census). Unfortunately the 1891 census gives his age as 46. The Parishes of New Leake and Old Leake were both in the Boston Registration District for that period. There were no births for George Atkin Jan 1840 to Jun 1841 registered in Boston. There was a George Henry Atkin Oct-Dec 1844, Boston XIV 230. Unfortunately I am running out of credits on 1837online, so I have not been able to check all the intervening years or go back and forward from these years. You may therefore find another likely Boston registration. If these Parishes are on the IGI (which you can check from the Hugh Wallis web site) then you may get his baptism, depending on how far into the nineteenth century they have entered the records. Otherwise you will be faced with checking the actual Parish records, either in the Lincolnshire Records Office or at a main library in the County, or seeing if an LDS Church local to you can get a film copy for you to look at. I hope this may help a bit nevertheless. Best wishes Stan

Hi, Thank You for looking, In 1891 he should be in Hull, Problem is I do not have much info on him - All I know is he is named on his son - Herberts marriage certificate - which I have in front of me - and it just gives his name - but he called his other son Arthur Remmington Atkin - so could George Ribbington - really be George Remmington Atkin - and it just be a spelling mistake. I was hoping to get something including the middle name - because then I can narrow it down out of all the George Atkin.

I am about to give up, my research is not going well on a particular person. I am looking for a George Ribbington Atkin - I know existed. I have allways been led to believe he lived in Lincolnshire and then came to Hull, East Yorkshire. ( He was a blacksmith ) Is there anyone who can find a George Ribbington Atkin - anywhere !!!! I give up with all the websites. Thank you in advance
