I want to find out if my Grandma was born in the Ore Workhouse or possibly Hastings Workhouse in 1855, where can I find the records if there are such things still in existance? Thanks, Maggie |

Thanks Vera, Do you need anymore information? Her name was Kate Whittington born on 16.3.1855 her mother was Elizabeth Whittington formerly May and her Father was John Whittington - Coach Builder. We cant't find a marriage of Elizabeth and John and we think she lied about being married, just put it on Kates birth certificate for Kates benefit? Her birth certificate just says that she was born in Ore. Maggie |

Hi Maggie, Sorry I have been so long. Our computer is down, my sister is very kindly letting me use hers. Not good news I'n afraid. No Kate Whittington or Elizabeth May in the Hastings Libraryrecords . They said their records started for Births and Deaths in 1866. No help at all!!! Admissions and Discharges from 1878. She advised you contact East Sussex CC in Lewes telephone 01273482349 to see if they can help. I am so disappointed for you. Hope they can help you. Bye for now. If I can help with anything else, feel free. Regards Vera |
