Hello could somebody look up the name Baslow please, london area. It seems to be a fairly rare name, practically nothing on the IGI (under 100). Thanks Diane

Thanks Susie, How strange I have looked on the census disc given away with Your Family Tree and it has at least 6 showing as being on the 1891. Never mind it's always worth a try. Thanks again Diane

Hello Rosemary Only just seen your reply, thank you. It's really strange. I got this months Your Family Tree it has a 6million name census index for 1841/91. When you search a name it tells you what census it is on. There were 8 (from memeory) Baslows showing as being on the 1891 census London. Does this mean Ancestry isn't as complete as the cd sets??

Thanks to you all for taking the time for me, it is much appreciated. It just goes to show you can't rely on anything being "complete" Thanks again Diane

Do these census indexes put the whole family on or just the head. I found a name on one but it didn't appear to have the rest of the household on it.

Eames

Eames Report 16 Feb 2004 13:36

Diane, This index doesnt show what relations to each other, just the names, age and where they lived.

Lucky Report 16 Feb 2004 13:38

Yes, the one I looked on didn't seem to have the wife's name anywhere. It was quite an uncommon name too.

What names have you got?

Emma

Emma Report 16 Feb 2004 13:43

Diane, For you info. It was on the 1871 london index for Riggs. Lynda found the image for me and it was the family I wanted. The first piece of info I have got with this family on, but unfortunately daughter Alice was not at home. She married 1872, I have checked the address on the marr cert but she wasn't living there another mystery. All I have is her on 1881, onwards as Alice Green. She married my gt.gt. grandfather William. At least this "hobby" of ours gets your brain thinking!! Emma, just saw your message. Not surprising really. I have found so many like that. I was looking for a marriage for ages for Amos Gaden, it was eventually found transcribed as Yaden.

Diane, Like the family earlier ... mistranscribed as Barlow.. Found an Alice Barlow aged 18 working as a servant in the 1891 census.. can send you the image if you'd like one?

Lucky

Lucky Report 16 Feb 2004 16:34

Hi Tracy Thanks but it was her daughter after her marriage that I'm after, she married William Green in 1872. The Alice I need is Alice Riggs, can't find her with her family on 1871 or at the address on her marriage cert in 1872. I will look for Barlow too though. Thanks Diane

Just as a matter of interest, Baslow is the name of a lovely little village in North Derbyshire. Maybe the family originally came from there?

It's funny you say that, when I put the name in google that's all it came up with!! It will be interesting when I have more on them to see if it is possible to track them back to there.
