The following has come back from Tracy Added by Tracy O'Leary on 15/02/2004 12:07:27 Pauline, I have some images taken in 1891 Census of the Binns .. couldnt find Alfred, and Mary Ann's there as Widowed and have few daughters still living there. If you want those images .. please email me direct so I can send it to you :) There's no 1871 for Binns.. sorry So, no joy there then. How many of his siblings have you found on freebmd/GRO index? Can we get a close-to-1871 address from any of those? Pauline

Since a birth for alfred has been found wanting; I have posted a request on an ancetsry lookup thread to lookup the 1881 address in 1871/1891 West Yorkshire census. Hopefully what they should get for you is Father/husband in 1871 and a double-check on alfred's age in 1891. There is a 50/50 chance he is still at home at 19. Also www county-surnames co uk has someone already researching Binns in Bradford. Try contacting them. Pauline

I have done a further check against 1837Online, and I can confirm that there was no-one called Alfred Binns born in Bradford in 1871 or 1872. Perhaps the age in the 1881 census was wrongly transcribed? You would need to check the actual entry for the page (using the piece, folio and page references from the index by the LDS) from a scanned or microfilmed version (in Bradford Library maybe, or the Family Records Centre in london). The two entries for Oct-Dec quarter of 1873 are: Bradford, Y. 9b 159 Bradford, Y. 9b 211 There were no entries for Bradford for earlier quarters of 1873. I hope this helps somewhat. Stan

North Bierley was created 1st January 1892 out of Bradford, so you should not have it as the Registration District for births in the 1870's. By the way, we use age at date of census in the UK, so he could have been born in the first three months of 1872, or the last nine months of 1871. The Americans (who compiled the 1881 transcript) seem to use age in year of census, so their guess as to year is only right for the three month period. Stan
