Hi Lynda, That would make sense if it's the hospital as William was a porter. Thanks for checking for me - thought it was too much to hope to find them there in 1851. I'm trying deperately to prove a link between them and some records I've found in the IGI that would take me well back into the 1700s. I don't know of any Lucy's in the family, but if she runs a pub she's OK by me !! Thanks again, Rick.

Rick Didn't realise you already had the census. Looking back over the pages it looks as though it could have been Chelsea Hospital. On the first page it is Sloane Square, and the first persons listed there are a Giles family! Lucy Giles mother widow 37 Ale House Keeper b. Surrey Alice Giles 10 Scholar b.Ratcliff London Lucy Giles 3 b. Sloane Square I noticed that Lucy snr was born in Surrey and so was William, and thought there maybe a connection, and the fact she was an Ale House keeper, you may want to claim her!! I looked on the 1851 in the hospital and couldn't see any Giles. Sorry Lynda

Hi Lynda, I think there are some partial indexes around - Kindredkonnections has around 3%, but my family's not in there. Max sent me the census image from 1861, but there's no street name on it - can you help with that ? I don't suppose there's much chance they were at the same address in 1851, but my luck has to change someday ! Thanks, Rick.

Richard As far as I know there isn't an 1851 name search, but I have the 1861 and there is a William Giles age 55 would you like the details from the census? Lynda

If anyone has the 1851 index, I'm trying to find this family: William Giles aged about 45, born Surrey, porter Susan or Susanna or Susannah Giles, about 40, born Hertfordshire Emma or Emily Giles, about 15 Ann Giles,2 They were in Chelsea in 1861 but I don't have an address. They may be in the Westminster area in 1851. Thanks, Rick.
