Hi Louisa I think i've found them on the 1881 but it does throw up a big question. The age difference It say George Frederick Hobbs aged 60 General Labourer Elizabeth his wife aged 33 Emma his daughter aged 18 Birth place for all of them being Gosport. Grace Merlock's middle name was Elizabeth. On FreeBMD the marriage between Grace and George was recorded in the Dec Quater 1873 but Grace's surname is recorded as Sherlock. Marriage was recorded in Alverstoke Gosport. Hope this helps Jane

Hi Louisa I think i have found Elizabeth Hobbs (Grace) on the 1901 census. It states that she was born Hants-White. Age 53 I could not find any Merlocks on FreeBMd but i have found an Elizabeth Sherlock born on the Isle of White about 1850 which would agree with the age in 1881 census where i found George Frederick Hobbs. Elizabeth Sherlock Registered in Isle of White Mar Quater of 1850 No 8 249 Jane
