For sometime I have been trying to trace my Grandfather Robert Tucker. I am told he was called Harry in early life. On the CWGC site on the death of his son Edwin J he is listed as John by Edwin's widow. Robert would have been born around 1885. I have downloaded all the births from 1884-1886. As Robert was wounded in WW1 I have tried to have his record found but a researcher only came up with possibles. I have contacted British Legion, Limbless ex servicemans assoc. Red Cross, Haig homes. Wandsworth Borough Council [the area he lived in, though I dont know if he was born there. The council confirmed that he was at 76 Larch Road Balham London SW12 in 1914. My mother birth certificate gives that address for 1920. My problem is going back. I have checked all the census's. I did find a Harry staying with visitors at Larch Road in 1891. I can however get nothing definite. On Roberts marriage certificate the father is Edwin. GRO had trouble marrying up a Robert with a father Edwin. I dont want to give up but where do I go from here? |

Thank you Jane, yes I have noticed Robert Charles Tucker, I havent discounted it although it doesnt tie in agewise, in 1908 on marriage cert Robert is 23 and in 1948 on death cert January Robert is 62. This puts it to 1885. A thought came to me last night, whilst I asked GRO to do a search 1884-6 they didnt search all the Roberts, so I am going to put a year in and see what they return for that year, then put another year in until I succeed. I will keep you posted. Thanks Geoff, I have practically downloaded every Tucker in the Battersea area and also other areas in the hope of finding Robert and Edwin together. This is why its so frustrating. I have a computer full of Tuckers. Regards Christina |
