I am waiting for his marriage certificate - very impatiently as you can see by my frantic message. As for death -well there are several John Copus's and don't know which one to send for. Guess I'll have to be patient and something will click into place. Trouble is, both families (if they are two families) use the same family names. Maria, not a common name is in both families and also, to confuse me even more, there is a John Browne Copus born in 1782 at Clewer - Browne was the maiden name of John's wife 50 years later (married 1833). Maybe they all intermarried. Coincidence , or what!! Jackie |

Jackie, do you have the marriage and death certificates of the John born in 1834? I realsie the birth was before civil reg., but his marriage and death would not have been. You might find your witnesses happen to come from one or other of your families - clutching at straws a bit I know. Otherwise you might be into searching for siblings to see if that helps. |

I haven't a clue what's going on here. Please can someone help? I have a John Copus b Eton, Bucks 1834. Found his birth -father John, mother Ann Browne married Eton 1833. Now for father John:- There is a John Copus baptised 1802 Cookham, Berks (about 7 miles from Eton). Father John mother Diana Vincent. Their other children are baptised at Cookham. I have a marriage for one son and a daughter at Langley Marish, Bucks and in 1851 John and Diana are in fact still alive living in Langley Marish. All seems simple. Now for the spanner in the works: There is a John Copus baptised Clewer, Berks. father Charles, mother Mary also 1802. Clewer is virually in Eton. (this is where we begun!!) Loads of Copus's going back to before 1750. Which family is it? Are they the same family? Although different counties, Eton, Cookham,Clewer and Langley Marish are on Parloc very close. Any ideas or help out of this muddle? PLEASE!!! Jackie |
