census dates right or wrong

I know people who deny how old they are now so some things haven't changed over the centurys then THANKS GEOFF Jan |

One wonders how many people actually knew their ages (or indeed why they should need to know them). I can't imagine them blowing candles out every year. Even in the 1860s many people could not write their name, so why should they be numerate? |

Thanks Marie it says she was 26 but i've got her bap in 1810 mind you she was out of the county maybe her hubby thought she was younger any luck with grandad yet Jan |

thanks Geoff so if ive got the baptism as 1810 they would be 31, not 26 as in the census think i've got it now thanks yet again for all your help Jan |

Ages in the 1841 census were (or should have been) recorded as follows: 0 to 14: correct age 15 to 19: 15 20 to 24: 20 25 to 29: 25 etc This was in the enumerator's instructions. Occasionally, however, they made a mistake and 38 is recorded as 38! |

are census dates usually much out,in 1841 census there is 5yrs differance to 1881,I think they arte the same people but the dates are confusing me,any ideas please thanks Jan |
