Does he have any siblings. You would be able to get the maiden name of his mother from one of theirs I did that with one of mine |

My great grandfathers sisters were in an orphanage for many years, on dismissal one went into service. I found her on the 1891 census in Wales. She had a middle name, can't read it properly, could be Lucy or Luna?? I have her baptism entry, birth certificate and documents from the orphanage nothing ever mentions a middle name, where did it come from. I can't find any trace of her after 1891 census. Was it just a mistake from the people who she was in service for. |

hi sue could he have been illegitimate? I'm across a few with double barrelled names that were christened with the father's surname as a second christian name and some who have added it in adult life |

I've heard that if you were a Roman Catholic you could add a middle name when you got confirmed. Knew someone who was Christened Alan, then at his Confirmation, added William. Might be of some help. Happy hunting. Linda |

Have one rellie who didn't like her only christian name so used her confirmation name instead even on her marriage certificate as a middle name. Husband didn't even know her real name!!!!! |

My Great Grandfather changed his surname from A to B, then on second marriage reverted to A, with B as a middle name(BA). In some Kelleys Directories, he is BA and AB, depending on which year you check, and all at the same address! A clue was that the name he chose to use was his mothers maiden name. It took me four years to prove this. Good Luck. Just back from a week end in Robin Hoods Bay. |

many of you have probably seen me pleading for info for-william randall walker-!!! on his 1873 wedd cert he uses middle name, also has that name on there for his father. on the 1881 he uses randall. lots of william walkers everywhere i look, but none using randall. cannot even find him on the 1837 site[births] is it possible the middle name was added after his birth. and then maybe he didnt use it until 1873. when i got his wedd cert i thought GREAT an unusual middle name, wasnt i just very wrong, sue [confused and fed up] |
