I have been trying to find my Gran on the 1901 census. Her parents are there, and my Gran should be, she would have been about 7 at the time, where could she be? Sue

Her name is Eliza Frankis her parents are Edward and Florence, living with Florence's mother Eliza Willmore at 3 Rose Cottage Pomeroy Street, Surrey London, part of Deptford. Sue

Hi Rosemary, Thanks for trying. Do you think her parents just never bothered to enter her on the census? Sue

There is an Elizabeth Franks 8 living in St Paul Deptford but the decoder does not "group" her with the other three that you name. Perhaps they were at the bottom of the page and she was at the top of the next page. (Nothing sinister about that - they just carried onto the next page when one page was full. In fact this could explain why her name was transcribed differently.)

Geoff - trouble with that is that there's a William Franks 36 and a Margaret Franks 33 on the same page as Elizabeth Franks. Also some more Franks children. Therefore they're likely to be a different family.

Geoff, Thanks for looking, but unfortunately Elizabeth Franks is not the person I am looking for, I am really curious as to where she was on that night!! Sue

There's an Elizabeth Frankis aged 1 in the right place. It would be easy to misread a 7 as a 1. Perhaps this is her. Fingers crossed. Janice

Hi Janice, Elizabeth is Eliza's sister, can you tell me who Elizabeth was staying with. Sue

Janice Report 12 Apr 2004 11:01

Hi Sue, Someone with the decoder will need to help out here. I put in Frankis as the surname and St Paul Deptford as the keyword. Got the following: Edward 30 Elizabeth 1 Florence 30 George 4 George 25 Mary 24 Robert 3 Hope this helps. Janice

Hi Janice, Thanks for that, Edward and Florence are her parents. Spoke to Mum, she said she had a sister Elizabeth who was about 1 in 1901, but Elizabeth is not grouped with Edward and Florence. Will ask Mum who George was, perhaps he was Edward's brother. Thanks everyone for your help. Sue

Hi Sue , I don't know if this helps or if you already have this info . From freebmd Eliza Sophia Frankis born Greenwich Dec qtr 1894 1d 1074 . Can't find her in 1901 census though , tried Eliza and Sophia without surname and nothing likely came up . Perhaps she was in hospital or something and not appearing in normal searches . Best wishes , Hilary

Hi Hilary, Sorry I have not replied sooner, but I have been unable to post messages since 15.45 until now. If my Grandma was in hospital for the 1901 census, do you know if there is a web site for hospitals re 1901. Sue

Janice

Janice Report 12 Apr 2004 20:53

If she was in hospital she should still be on the census. Janice
