I've had a Eureka moment. I've finally found great x4 grandfather, Thomas Ratcliffe (or at least someone with the same name and approx right age in the right town) on the 1841 census. In Kent County Lunatic Asylum ! Which later became Oakwood hospital. I had been hoping to find him with his family as I have no details of them, except my great x3 grandfather Henry Ratcliffe. But at least I've found him. Anyway - the records for the Asylum are apparently at the Centre of Kentish Studies in Maidstone and include Admission, Discharge and Clinical information. Which sounds great - except I'm in Aberdeen. Is there any kind soul out there who is going to the Centre for Kentish Studies (I believe you need to be registered there to access this sort of material) ? I would be very, very grateful. I've been hunting for Thomas for ages and I would really like to confirm if this is him. Ann
