I have found my 2nd Great Grandfather Edward COLE on both the 1881 (LDS) and 1891 (image online) censuses. The strange thing is he is (apparently) 48yo in 1881 (b. abt. 1833)and 42yo in 1891 (b. abt. 1849) His age is clearly written as 42 in 1891 which leaves me to doubt the 1881 transcript. On both references he lives at 13 Church St, Milton In Milton, Kent, England. Could someone look him up on the 1851 census to see if I can confirm on his age, please? Many thanks in advance. This would really help me. Paul |

I'm not sure if anyone on here has the 1851, I don't think that it is available on CD yet, although you may be lucky and find someone with this area. I can look him up on the 1841 this evening - if that would help. If the earlier date is correct I might find him. Do you have his parents or any siblings names ? Ann |

FreeBMD has an Edward Thomas Cole born in the Jun Quarter of 1848 in the Gravesend district, which includes Milton. Unfortunately the reference is missing. Just vol 5 page 1_3. Ann |

I was checking the 1881 census to see which Milton to look in (there are about 15 in Kent), when I found this entry. Richard Cole Head Male 43 Purfleet Essex Lab in Chalk wks Mary Reb. Cole Wife Female 39 Northfleet Kent, Wife Lab in Chalk works Alice May Cole Daur Female 8 Gravesend Kent Scholar Richd. Thos. Cole Son Male 7 Northfleet Kent Scholar William Jno Cole Son Male 3 Northfleet, Kent Scholar Edward Cole Boarder Male 32 Gravesend Kent Lab in Chalk Wks 35 The Shore Northfleet Kent England This Edward Cole would appear to have been born in about 1849. So maybe this is the one you found on the 1891. Note that there is Milton just outside Gravesend. Ann |

Paul, I've had a look in several Milton's on the 1841 census - with no luck. The Edward Cole born in 1833 ish on the 1881 census - was born in Faversham - so I've had a quick look there as well. If you can confirm from all this, which Edward you are looking for and which Milton you think he might be in - I'll look again. Ann |
