Jay in Saddleworth. Just putting my twopennorth in. LEAVE GC AS IT IS...... WE like it like that. ....and market research (HUH ?) got it wrong. I think some bright spark thought that up after a night on the town, and didn`t wait to sober up before reuniting mouth with brain.

Whatever happened to free speach - all night I have not been able to access any of the threads concerning this topic. I came across a thread which I tried to reply too, but no joy I kept getting the blurb about "page not being able to display" etc. which everybody on the thread was complaining about. Obviously the "powers that be" have allowed access to them - it makes you wonder??

Evening ALL! Just a parting thought before turning in. Steve Pankhurst ( The Founder of GC ) says that GC has a million members> Just think of it. What happens if they all wanted to get on the Boards at the same time???????? I've counted a mere 58 regular names on the Boards so far. Good Night Jim

I agree with previous posts. GC was much better - this way it will probably attract more people trying to find living rellies than us tracing ancestors

Market Research - says it all. Its a business, they just want to increase revenue and profit. They want to attract new customers and maybe are not to worried about loosing a few dis-gruntled existing folk. GC is a great idea, but by comparison to other sites the search ,and other facilities, on the messages boards are poor. I wonder how many users/customers they actually have, volume of messages etc? Maybe what this user community needs is a "not for profit version" of the boards part of GC at least, where all you kind folk can interchange/share request/info etc as per now. No doubt, GC/GR are busy trying to come up with ideas of how to plug into all these volunteers exchanging info and make money out of it - that's why they exist! We - the "user community" - should be busy trying to think of ways to do it for free, or at least at very low cost! What's the bet that the "bigger better GR" starts cranking up prices before long? I don't really expect them to listen to the users - maybe only if the paying members left in droves, which seems pretty unlikely unless presented with an alternative. Should we start a poll? What are your opinions? Regards, Chris. PS Don't air your great ideas in public - someone might see them!

I can't believe the name was changed within 24 hours of it being announced through the message boards... I haven't even recieved an email notifying me of the name change... what about the poor people who don't use the message boards.. Genes Reunited sounds like a missing person's website and will be overlooked for those wanting to CONNECT.... This site has achieved a good reputation as GC, I can't imagine why anyone would want to change it... Someone mentioned that Friends Reunited had some bad publicity, so why would they want GC associated with it.. its more likely to turn people away. Diane NSW Australia

Well. So much for people power. Wolfie Smith would not be impressed. I personally dont want to be reunited with my ancestors, as they have been dead for a minimum of 20+ years. Maybe I'll be reunited with them after 'passing over', however it'll be too late for my family tree then - unless I plan on a bit of haunting. GC is much more appropriate. If I want to be reunited then I access Friends Reunited. I prefer to be connected with my genes !!!!

That is pure ART Janet!! Go to view/edit details,,,,change name then log off and log on again. Why not Genes Reconnected?? It gives them their RE bit, but still makes sense!

Geoff on the general topics board suggests we put GC after our names to protest I would do that but haven't a clue how too! ..............(`'·.¸(`'·.¸ ¸.·'´)¸.·'´).............. «´¨`·.¤º°`°º¤ø*Jan x *ø¤º°`°º¤.·´¨`» ..............(¸.·'´(¸.·'´ `'·.¸)`'·.¸)..............

Got a reply from them just now I defintely would like to know where they do their market research, certainly not through us members that's for sure, here is their reply. Thank you for taking the time to write to us. To address your first point, we understand some of the people using the site prefer the old name to Genes Reunited. The change is just one of the things we're doing to make it easier for people who haven't yet caught the genes bug to understand what the site does. The Friends Reunited link is important to attracting new enthusiasts - which in turn makes the site better for the current users. The name change was genuinely the product of research we did and it seemed to make sense to us. Rest assured, the team here is dedicated to making Genes Reunited better and better - attracting new users, with new trees is part of this. Hope you understand - again, thanks for your valuable comments. Regarding the problem with the message threads. The site has been experiencing exceptional levels of traffic over the last few days and our technical team is currently investigating and we hope to have the problem rectified as soon as possible Make what you will of their answer but as the title says GC was not listening.
