1901 Census has Sarah Turner (45) (widow) with sons Thomas H(erbert) (18) and Frederick(16). I am looking for the husband/father. Have tried 1891 using Sarah and the kids names with no luck. Same for 1881. Any ideas please?

Gerry Is Sarah a prisoner in 1881? Sam

Always possible, but then shouldn't Thomas and Frederick have popped-up somewhere?

I thought you meant you had found Sarah in 1881 Gerry, is that not the case? Also, are we looking for Turners born in London, living in London, or both? Sam

Gerry I have been looking on 1891, now I have found a Sarah married to a Thomas in Camberwell and born in Camberwell, Walworth I think if I am right is part or next to Camberwell. They have a son Thomas 9 no Frederick but there were other children. Only problem is the age is wrong for Sarah it looks like 25 seems a bit young to have a 9 year old. Frederick could be with other relatives. I have saved the image if you would like it. Irene

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help. Sam, I am trying to find the husband/father (first name unknown). I am assuming he, and the rest of the family, were in London in 1891. I thought, if he was alive in 1891 I will get his name by finding Sarah and the kids in census, but they don't want to come out to play. Rosemary, how do I do that please? Irene, have mailed you. Ta Gerry

If the kids ages are correct in 1901, they wouldn't have been born in 1881, in fact would Sarah have been married then? Sooooooooo many Turners!!

I'm afraid I haven't the facilities to check 1891 for you, but someone else will follow through with 91 for you. Elaine :-)

Elaine Looks promising. Sarah is right age. However, as Frederick junior was 16 in 1901 he shouldn't be born yet!!!! :-))

Hi folks, Yes I did pick up on the fact that in 1881 neither child should be born ... but its all the 1881 threw up and with correct age for Sarah as well, correct birth place etc so I thought I'd give it !! something to go on .. Just incase it turns out right ... Found marriage in 1877 Sept. Lambeth 1d, 668. Frederick Turner to Sarah Rebecca Denham. The 1901 could have wrong ages for children ??? Elaine :-)

Further investigations :- IF the find 1881 is the correct one ... then Frederick was born 1853. Sarah was Widow in 1901.. Found death for Frederick Turner Dec 1891, St Olave, 1d, 139 aged 38 ( which would have this Frederick being born in 1853 ) Worth investigating further, bit of a coincidence don't you think ? Elaine :-) Definately past my bedtime. Nite. Just as a last thought, maybe the first son Frederick died very young ?
