Hi Debbie, Can you actually search the electoral register? Is it at the West Yorkshire Archives? Maggy

Current electoral registers should be available for people to check at the relevant library.

Hi Sue, Maggy & Helen. WOW go down stairs to 'watch where the heart is' last night and get up this morning to 6 replies!!! I sent an e-mail to the archives department at Rotherham Library (as advised by Robin Hood - many thanks for your help Robin) and received the following e-mail as a reply. Thankyou for your enquiry. To ascertain who was living at 96, Claypit Lane, Rawmarsh in 1914 you will need to look at electoral registers. Unfortunately we do not hold the registers for the period you require. These records are kept at Wakefield Registry of Deeds. The address is : West Yorkshire Archive Service, Wakefield Headquarters, Registry of Deeds, Newstead Road, Wakefield WF1 2DE Telephone: 01924 305980 I hope this information will help with your research. Yours sincerely Pat Hobson Senior Archives and Local Studies Assistant So I suppose it must be right but I dont know if you need to book in advance. Thanks Debbie

Hi Maggy Yes it looks like they do have the info see the e-mail below that I received today. If you can help me I would be more than grateful - their e-mail address that would not copy on the earlier post is wakefield"at"wyjs(.)org(.)uk We have copies of the Rotherham electoral registers at this office that contain the Rawmarsh wards. I had a quick look at the register for 1914 - at the Rawmarsh Central, East,South & West wards - but did not find Clay Pit Lane listed. Unfortunately, if you wanted us to do a more thorough search of the registers for the period we would need to charge you a £18.00 postal search enquiry fee, which would be the normal procedure in such an enquiry. Payment could be made by cheque (payable to Wakefield MDC) or by credit card (tel 01924 305980/2) Sorry we can't be of more help at the present time, Regards Geoff Brown Archivist West Yorkshire Archive Service:Wakefield www(.)archives(.)wyjs(.)org(.)uk Many thanks Debbie

Hi Debbie, I will try to get there in the next couple of weeks. Just give me as much info as possible. Is there any particular name that you want me to look for etc. I will wait until I get a few more things together that I need to look for first. Maggy

Hi Maggy I am looking for my husbands Grandmother Vera Roebuck born in 1914 @ 96 Clay Pit Lane, Rawmarsh, Rotherham. Her mother was Marian Roebuck who lived at the same address and her occupation was a domestic servant. I am trying to find out who else live at the same address at the same time. The post code today is S62 5EB ( if that helps at all) Many thanks for your help in anticipation. Debbie
