Have you tried the name Proper, as I have come across mistrancribed names on immigration lists and had this verified. The way they use to write an S twice in a name like Prosser can easily be mistaked for a letter p. John Prosse Hull |

Hello again, I have just looked them up in 1901 and there is a Jenny Firth aged 19 b Swinton visiting them!! Seems more likely that we have found them on 1881. John is still down as being born in Sheffield though!! |

Thanks again Sue, I think Rose might be on to something as I couldn't find the birth of John Prosser in Sheffield 1853-1857 on 1837 online!! I am going to look through them again for Birmingham, it could be possible :-) |

Hello Rose, it may be them as only John's age and birthplace are wrong. I will do a bit of digging and get back to you. Thankyou very much Russell |

Cheers Sue, I have even looked at all the John's living in Wombwell and Darfield for possible transcription errors. I do not think a 'Coke Burner' with a 1 yr old son would be out of the country on census night! - He must be there somewhere!! Russell |

In 1891, John Prosser 37 b Sheffield is living in Worsbrough, WRY. Other members of the family are Elizabeth his wife (age 31, born Pontefract) and children Joseph, John and Florence. Joseph is aged 11 and born in Darfield, John is 8 and born in Wombwell and Flo is 5, also born in Darfield. Can anybody do better than me and find them in 1881?? Any help would be greatfully received. Russell |
