hi just wondered if someone can help me find children of Thomas Ashburn Pester and Elizabeth Truscott. Through what I've found out they married in 1845 in Plymouth, devon , their first child to my knowledge was Edwin Ashburn Pester born 1855/56 in Portsea, hampshire, but I would have thought they'd have children before that, so if anyone can help me find some children that would be good, as i've only found two so far... thanks Steve |

I don't know how many parish churches there were in Plymouth at the time, but it might help if you said which church the parents were married at? |

There are loads more Pesters born Devon after 1852, but of course there's no way of knowing which are yours. I would suggest you find the family on the 1851 and 1861 censuses to see which children are listed with the parents, and then look for the births. nell |

You should be able to find all the children on LDS site with Thomas and Elizabeth by entering them as the parents. nell |

If you order the marriage certificate it should have where they married on it, even if they married in a registry office |

You can't be sure which are yours, and you can't even be sure of how many parishes your relatives lived in. What you can do is find out which parish they married in and where they were during the census. Then you will have to check the registers which will be at the local records office, or see if the parishes are in registration districts mentioned on the list I gave you. If you think they could be yours and want to check you can use the parents' names as a check when you order the certs. That's why I think it would be easier to see who is listed living with them on the census first. nell |

If they married in a registry office then fair enough you won't get a church. Instead try and find out what parish they were living in in the 1851 and 1861 census returns. The parish is usually in the top right hand corner of the page of the census return. Would help you narrow down the search. Other than that, you could try looking at the source information for those baptism records you found on familysearch.org . The link is at the bottom of each record. |

Steve Thomas' occupation (which may well be connected with sailing) would be on his marriage cert and also on the census. nell |

i've searched census records, but drew a bit of a blank really, they married in 1845 but people listed in 1871 and afterwards are too young to be Edwin's parents |

Steve If Thomas and Elizabeth were married 1845, I'd look for them and their family on the 1851 census. I know its difficult when its not online and you aren't even sure whether they would be in Devon or Hants, but I think it would be worth checking the area in which they married, and where the eldest child you know of was born - start with the addresses on the wedding and birth certs and then check surrounding areas. It's a shame they aren't tiny villages :-( nell |

yeah i know, i've requested help on this site, and getting the certificate could be a dead end as it might not be even the parents of Edwin in the first place, |
