Find Ancestors

Hi can anyone tell me what im doing wrong? My G Great Gran Winifred Kathleen Wynn born 1895 but i cant find birth entry for her. Do not know where she was born. I have a marriage cert 1926 to Albert Alfred Charman in Lambeth, they had my grandmother 2 months earlier. And i have death cert 1961 Lambeth. Her fathers name is William Wynn ion her marriage cert and says he was an actor. He was dead at the time of marriage. Am i just being stupid?

Hi, i looked on 1837 but no luck, i am wondering if she had a different name at birth. I looked at the whole year 1895 just incase! I have tried typing her name and birth date in to numerous genealogy sites but no luck. I found some Winifred Wynns but with different fathers or middle names! I havn't tried spelling the name a different way, good point! Am so frustrated, it was my nans dream to find out about her mother and she died this year without achieving this. I feel it is my duty to find out! Stupid i know!

Also dont forget that the BMD indexes are no more immune to human error than anything else. Some entries were either garbled or simply missed. Maybe the birth was never registered evean after the 1874 rule to make it compulsory. If she was the eldest child, then it could be har mum and dad married after she was born, so she was registered under her mothers maiden name.

Yes her middle name was Kathleen on marriage cert.

If the 1901 census has thrown up a possible for Winifred Wynn aged 5 ... then have you checked 1896 as the year of birth as well as 1895 ... bearing in mind that Mum & Dad are more likely to be more accurate with her age whilst she was young, than what she herself may have been on her own wedding day ?? if that makes sense ! Another consideration ...she may have been registered very late ... an Ancestor of mine was registered 2 years after her birth ...she was Christened at the same time. Elaine :-)

HI JUst had a look at the full listing for th e1901 the only W Wynn aged 5 that comes up is the one liseted earlier with father Thomas Henry Wynn and mother Eliza the other are ths siblings of her. Just in case your William changed his name from thomas to fit in with job description. I did find Thomas in the 1891 with Eliza wife and a brother. Both men were advertising clerks so I suppose Acting could come from that. It would be a step on the right ladder.
