I am trying to help my friend find her great grandfather. His name was Samuel John GOVIER b 1838 Parkham or Bidford Devon. I have him in 1881,1891 and 1901. I think he was in Cornwall in 1871 with his first wife. She would love to find out her name. His son Frederick William was born Gunnislake Cornwall 1870 as were the next 4 children. Thanks Shirley.

Tracy Thanks for replying so quick. I do not think that is them. Samuel John would be 33 I think he was copper miner. Then his wife. Frederick William age 1. I have noticed that Govier is quite a common name in Devon and Cornwall. Shirley

Thanks Elton, I will pass on the Govier details. Still looking for them in 1871. Shirley

Have looked, Shirley - on Ancestry and Cornwall 1871 census. They are hiding away somewhere. Tricia

Shirley Report 11 Nov 2004 22:54

Tricia, I am pretty sure he was in Cornwall in 1871. But as you say he is hiding away. Thanks for trying anyway. Shirley

If Frederick was born before the 1871 census he should be easy to find but can't find him anywhere, let alone Cornwall. Anyone else like a go??? Tricia

Sounds like they're with my family.... where ever that may be lol 1871 is a blackhole of a census year!

Dear All I agree that as Frederick was born before 1871 he should be easy to find. There was another son Samuel John aged 10 in 1881 also b Gunnislake. Does anyone know where Gunnislake is please? Shirley

Shirley! I think that I've found them in 1871. The Ancestry transcription is hopeless: Civil parish: Calstock St Andrew, Gunnis Lake: Samuel Govegone 22 Bideford, Devon, England Head Patrice Govegone 33 Lew Down, Devon, England Wife Samuel John Govegone 28 Calstock, Cornwall, England Son Frederick Wm Govegone 1 Calstock, Cornwall, England Son Emma Clemens 27 Menheniot, Cornwall, England Boarder Source information: RG10/2145 Registration district: Tavistock Sub-registration district: Tavistock ED, institution, or vessel: 18 Folio: 129 Page: 39 Household schedule number: 196 That means that the son was Samuel 6 years older than the father! I don't think so! So, of course I went to check the actual image, but keep getting an "image unavailable" message :( So - at least you have the reference - if someone has Cornwall 1871 NOT on Ancestry, they may be able to help? Slight difference in the ages of son Samuel then - 28 years on Ancestry and 2 days on Kindred! Sometimes I feel that Ancestry is aging me prematurely too LOL!

A BIG BIG THANK YOU to everyone that took the time to help in the search for the GOVIER/GOVEYOUR/GOVEGON/GOVERGRIN family. My friend is just starting out in the search for her family and she is in the progress of joining Genes Reunited. We could not have found them without your help. Once again. Thanks. Shirley and Fern. ps I wish I could find my own family as quickly.
