Hi, Could someone please advise me on anywhere else i can look for my grandmother. I have got her marriage cert, death cert but no birth cert, i have sent to Stockport and they have looked 1901 - 1903 (she was born in 1902) I have found her sisters births and baptisms but not hers, i have also looked on 1837 but no joy. I dont know where else to look, i would be grateful if any one can help. Linda

What's her name? Also her siblings? Crista

Hi Crista, Thank you for your reply. Her name was Lily Scott and her sisters were Elizabeth, 1900, Sarah, 1896 and Louisa 1892 born in Nottingham. Linda

Could this be her. It's the only one I can find born Nottingham in 1902 on Ancestry. Name: Scott, Lily Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1902 District: Nottingham County: Nottinghamshire Volume: 7b Page: 341 Hope this helps. Kath. x p.s. the entry is also on 1837online.

Hi Kathleen, I have seen this one but her family say she was born in November 1902. I will have to think again about that one. Thanks. Linda

Families can be mistaken. It is possible that she was born November, but in 1901 and wasn't registered until after the New Year. It would be worth asking the GRO to check that reference and find out the date of birth. Kath. x

She may well have been registered late, or just as a "female" without a name shortly after birth. nell

Thanks Kathleen and Helen, I will try and find out if this is her but would they not have known this when i sent for her birth cert last time. I put her mam and dad's name on the form. Linda

They should have done. It might be better to get in touch with the Nottingham register office and ask them if there was a birth in November 1901 or 1902. (Are the family absolutely sure the birthday was November?). Kath. x

Hi Kathleen, Her 2 daughters are sure her birthday was in November. Could you tell me Kathleen, when she died it was 16/11/1954 and her birthday was 21/11/1954 would they put her age on her death cert on the day she died or her next birthday, hope you can understand me. Linda

Linda, It should be the age at death, not the age at next birthday. Are you sure she was James' and Elizabeth's child? Perhaps she was Mary Ann's or Caroline's? Crista

It should have been put on as her age at the time of death, but it all depends on what the informant told the registrar. The registrar can only record what he is told. I don't think at that time the date of birth was put on the certificate (I'm not sure but I think that only started in the 1960's). Once date of birth was put on certificates the proper age could be calculated. Kath. x

Hi Crista, Her parents were James and Elizabeth, the other 2 females were her 2 half sisters i think. My mother and my aunt did not know anything about them. Linda

Linda, Just wondering because Elizabeth was 43 in March 1901 so Lily would have been a late baby. Sometimes the later babies are actually the elder daughter's. Crista

Hi Kathleen, On her death cert her age is down as 52 but her birthday was few days later when she would have been 53 and born in 1901. If that is true then the lady you have found could be her and i will be over the moon and forever grateful to you. Thanks Linda
