Nothing in 1877 or 1878 or 1879. I found two in Dec 1878, but one was born in Wolverhampton and the other in West bromwich.

Louise Was he definitely born Liverpool? There's a birth for John Grealey 1876 in Warrington Lou

Louise2212 Report 28 Dec 2004 10:04

well my Uncle says Ireland (but that doesn't appear to be)while a cousin says Liverpool

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 28 Dec 2004 10:05

If it is that one in Warrington, he's on vol 8c, page 170.

Thanks Tracey The reference isn't complete for it on ancestry. I was only thinking Warrington was a possibility cos it's so close to Liverpool. I think that's also known as clutching at straws! Lou

☼ Orangeblossom ☼ - Tracy Report 28 Dec 2004 10:08

lol Lou - I was thinking the same :) He could have been born in Ireland. All the family are from there, and there's no exact match anywhere on the English records.

wouldn't think so it appears the closet census return is in 1881 John Grayley abt 1874 Birkenhead, Cheshire, England Son Birkenhead Margaret Grayley abt 1846 Ireland Wife Birkenhead Michael Grayley abt 1844 Ireland Head Birkenhead Patrick Grayley abt 1877 Birkenhead, Cheshire, England Son Birkenhead i know his dad was michael from his marriage certifacte thanks for all the help :D

Unknown Report 28 Dec 2004 10:13

That John Grayley in 1881 makes him 12 years older than you thought. I know it's not impossible (my ggrandfather claims to be 28 in his marriage cert when he's actually 35!) but it's quite a leap Lou

It still could be the one Denise said - there is a Michael on that census too. What was his occupation when john got married?

I think if I were you, I'd start on a different path for a bit. I'd be quite confused by now lol

Louise2212

Louise2212 Report 28 Dec 2004 10:34

Totally off the subject....watched I Robot last night and said to my hubbie that I think ancestors 100+ years ago had it hard. Wonder if people looking US up in 100 years time will think we were primitive??? Lou

Yeah, such is family history. I have some on late censuses who aren't on the earlier ones or are on early and late, but not in the middle. The wierdest ones I have were married to one person on one census, another on the next census, and the original one on the next census! lol
