Not sure about help, I need a miracle but I know you all like a challenge. Just got a feeling this one is horribly mistranscribed! My 3 x grandmother is Esther Hawkridge born 1841 Derbyshire (Spondon but that rarely gets mentioned, it usually says Derby!). She 'vanishes' after the 1891 census when the family are living at 3 Ashwell Street, Radford, Notts. Her husband dies in Derby in 1898. She dies in LEICESTER in 1919! I cannot find her in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire or Leicestershire in 1901 (spelt correctly). I have tried searching under Hawkridge/Hawkbridge/Hawkrigg/Hockridge. I've tried just her first name spelt Esther/Hester/Esta and her year of birth. She dies under the name Hawkridge and I've searched from 1898 to 1919 for a marriage for Esther Hawkridge and the only one is the quarter after she died so that isn't her...I hope! Fancy having a look for me? Thanks Lou |

Have you tried the possibility of her having or being mistranscribed with a different first name or different place of birth. There are these possibilities: Priscilla Hawkridge 60 Nottinghamshire, England Wife Nottingham Nottinghamshire Alice Kawkridge 43 Derbyshire, England Wife Barking Essex I have tried other variations, but like you could not find anything that fits |

If she died Esther Hawkridge then it is quite unlikely she remarried. But could be possible I suppose, as she might not of took her second husbands name. regards, Siobhan |

Angus Very possibly if she isn't someone's wife! She would be 60 in 1901. 78 at death in 1919. Can I have the details please? Lou xx |

Thanks Siobhan Priscilla I have accounted for. She's the wife of Esther's husband's brother....or something like that. I'd assumed that this woman had died between the 1891 and 1901 census till I just did a search last night on that new familyrelatives website from 1891 till 1920, one match, Esther Hawkridge died in Leicester 1919 aged 78. Perfect name and age for when she was born AND her eldest son moved to Leicester after his 1888 marriage so I assume she died whilst living/visiting them. Lou |

Lou it is possibly that she somehow missed the census or got missed. I still haven't found one of my ancestors in the 1881 census and I have tried every variation of name age etc etc under the sun. regards, Siobhan |

Ah, but Priscilla Hawkridge has a husband called James, just as she had in 1891. |

That's right...James! James and Esther's husband Samuel are brothers. I knew she was married to one of the many! Lou |

I can't find one that looks like her, unless she's the one in a London workhouse. Source information: RG13/151 Registration district: St Pancras Sub-registration district: Camden Town ED, institution, or vessel: St Pancras Workhouse Folio: 97 Page: 3 She's probably off with those little green men again :) |

Yes, the aliens are being rather right with allowing us access to their census records! She could very well have been in a workhouse in London. Her son (my ggrandfather) married there in 1898 and lived there until 1905. Can someone PLEASE have a look at the piece details Tracy has left, for some reason I can view ancestry images but can't get past the fuzzy stage to be able to read them. Think my pooter is sick! Lou (Probably sick of all my ancestors!) |

Thanks Tracy Don't think that's her. She was definitely born Derby although that may be an error on the part of the people filling in the census at the workhouse. She must be somewhere unless, like Siobhan says, for some reason she just missed the census! Lou |
