Lou - that's the family. But no blasted Wilfred. lol Gwyneth - Ah - with you now. Yes it was the image. (Interestingly, I took ages to find them on 1891 because they had been mistranscribed by ancestry - they'd all been given the surname of the family immediately above, despite the image being correct). Jools (now going for second breakfast then off to work for a bit). |

Ooh, has Lou found him? What I meant by image was of the actual handwritten schedules rather than a transcription. |

Jools Jan did better than me! The closest I could find was an 8 year old William Howes born Rochdale living in Hanley, Staffs. Is that the family your Wilfred is supposed to be with? Lou |

Morning everyone and thanks for your suggestions so far. Gwyneth - you've lost me here (easily done this morning as I've been up since 0415). What image am I supposed to be looking at?? Jan - it would be nice if it was him but I think not - this family are not related to the rest of the clan I've found. Heather - I've ruled out the forces as he would only be 10 or 11 in 1901. Elaine - it's definitely the right death - all details on the certificate tie in with everything else I have, even down to his uncle ( who he worked with and in whose house he died) being the informant. I still haven't worked out where the Lawson comes into it as his mum's maiden name is Ullyott (I'm working back on her now, though she's proving awkward on the 1871). |

Hi Jools, Just a thought, and I'm not doubting you ! but are you sure that the death in 1911 is def yours ..and that he didn't die between 1891 & 1901 ? Just mention cos I did have the same prob ..then found the correct death some years earlier. Two with same names and born within month of each other. Elaine :-) ..still searching for you ! Just another thought. Could he have been with Lawson grandparents on census nite ? and have been put down as a Lawson instead of Howes ? He could also be under Fred instead of WilFRED. |

No, I cant see him, even tried dropping the Howes, in case he was under Lawson. Would he be in the forces? |

Are you viewing the actual image Jools? I couldn't find a wife anywhere in the index but there she was large as life on the image. Even using the image information, I tried another search, - still nothing even though I now knew she was there. I've also seen people logged with their neighbours surname, when the transcribers got confused. |

Have tried Hawes, wilf* with and without age and/or with and without surname and/or with and without born rochdale or lancashire. ZILCH. Have run out of "out of the box" inspirations. |
