Hi If someone could look for a Harriet BRIDGES on the 1861 I would be very grateful. She was born c1835 in Norwich the daughter of Isaac Bridges, and married in 1863 at St George Colegate to James Artherton. Have not been able to find her on the 1871-1901. With thanks Danielle |

No problem, they were easy but, as you say, when you've been staring at the screen for hours it all blurs into one...at least you have an addie to give someone as a start for the 1861 search now too unless you're lucky and its name indexed! Lou |

Yes...luckily she does seem to be fairly consistent with how she ages on the census.... Unlike one of mine who is 22 in 1871, 27 in 1881, 33 in 1891 and 40 in 1901. She's also in cloud cuckoo land! |

Yeehaa!!! Thanks so much for helping Danielle everyone - our search is a shared one (I discovered her on GR too!), and I hadn't even thought of going back to the capmaker lot (I'd heard about them ages ago, but didn't see a connection then) after finding the marriage of Harriet Bridges (the daughter) to James Atherton/Artherton in 1863. Danielle's asked just the right qns and BINGO! This Isaac is the father of our pioneer (who turns out to have been transported!) Isaac George BRIDGES...and the London link is one I really wanted. The names of new siblings are there, and that links to the names of our Isaac's children, so the jigsaw's definitely growing. All power to GR co-operation...and special thanks to danielle, Frances of Norwich, Tony from Aussie & you others who are helping. Sue (in NZ) |

Hi, Glad its helped and that you will be able to progress alittle more. I tried to find Isaac in the 1851 because he wasnt listed with family then but he must be outside Norfolk as hes not showing. good luck Jill |

Thanks - yes, I'm sure Danielle will be very happy too. After seeing this, I scooted off to Ancestry & IGI, and have worked out that: Harriet jnr had Alfred and then married James Atherton - Alfred has the surname Atherton in the censuses I'd already found, and is the right age. I think Phoebe married Henry Jarvis in Gt Massingham, and Emma married Samuel Chamberlain and lived in Gorleston, which is also where James Atherton & Harriet jnr lived. Thomas married Mary, and was in a census (1871 I think) as a plasterer - just like his dad and big brothers! So thanks for all your leads - this was a lot of new info for one night! Guess we'll have to try to sort out some BDM certs to verify now. I did know that Isaac had died in Heigham Workhouse in 1874, and he was there by 1871. Good night all- this excitement has kept me up after a long day at work - it's 1.11am and my husband was looking cross again as I sat tied to the keyboard when he disappeared to bed about 90 mins ago! LOL! Sue (in NZ) |
