I had the same problem when I first joined 1837online. I could not find the entries for my two children. I phoned them up and whilst on the phone they checked for me. They COULD see the entry and read the details to me ... then they asked me to log out, log back in and try again .. which I did. Low and behold, both my children appeared on the inedexes. I DON'T know what they did at 1837online, but they MUST have done something at there end. I'm now off to check to see if they are registered under more than one name. ! Elaine :-) |

Hmm... the same goes for the first of my children, I didn't use up credits checking the others but guess it would be the same. The registration number is the same for both entries. I will be interested to say what they say when you ask them. Kate. |

Kazzie Do you mean they are registered under two different names? I understand that children born after 1911 have an index entry under the mother's maiden name, but that doesn't mean they are registered with that name. If you have the same vol & page number for the separate surname entries I think you are OK. As for changing things, if you want to and it is possible, you have to go to the register office where they were registered originally, and they need to get permission from the GRO. nell |

Karin I'll go and check my daughter's, be interesting to see what she is registered under! Kazzie She's registered in both my surname and her dad's too which is odd cos I changed my name by deed poll 4 months before she was born. Can't answer your question re: why but I'm going to ring the register office here tomorrow and ask them! Lou |

Kazzie Were you married when they were born? I'm not saying that should make a difference but my daughter's birth SHOULD be listed on 1837. Be interesting to see whether she is registered with both names cos we weren't married when she was born Lou |

Hi Kazzie perhaps the mother wasn't married when the children were born or perhaps they had double barrelled names and thats how they recorded double barrelled names, paula |
